The facts are alarming. Substance Misuse and Addiction cost the US Economy $740 Billion annually. 70% of addicted people are employed full or part-time and 67% of HR Managers say that addiction is a serious problem in the workplace. The costs, while often hidden, have a direct impact on a company’s bottom line.

In the midst of a global pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted a survey in June 2020, the results of which reflected a dramatic increase in the devastating psychological and emotional impact that the Coronavirus pandemic is having on individuals. Consequently, the CDC is encouraging employers to look for ways to provide proactive support for their workforce relating to substance misuse and addiction.

Despite all this, there is a culture of silence in the workplace as it relates to substance misuse and addiction. HR professionals typically only talk to individuals that may be struggling as a reactive response to a critical incident or accident. Join us for this one-hour, live interactive HR community event approved for 1 SHRM professional development (PDC) and 1 HRCI recertification credit.

The goal is to help participants be proactive in establishing education and communication systems designed to reduce stigma and promote open and honest conversations about substance misuse and addiction in the workplace.

At the end, participants will be able to identify the impacts that Covid-19 has had on the workforce as it relates to substance misuse and addiction. Participants will be introduced to addiction awareness strategies, tools and resources that can be used to combat stigma, substance misuse and addiction by incorporating addiction awareness strategies into the workplace. It’s time to have an open conversation.
