Lesson Content

This section covered a lot of ground. Let’s summarize. Implementing diversity and inclusion initiatives is not without its challenges including pitfalls and barriers. This section focused on defining those challenges and recognizing Change Management as an important approach to deploying your action plans. I also went over how to get started, including the review of a very simple method to engage your managers in D&I called ACT – Acknowledge, Consider, and Take the Time. I ended with Cultural Competence.

But wait, how do you know these actions are working? Typically, you know it, when you see it. The organization’s brand will be reflective of its commitment to diversity from the mission statement to its marketing materials. The environment will be welcoming and friendly to new employees as well as visitors. An inclusive workplace will have female and male employees of different races, ethnicities and physical abilities at all levels.
