So before I dive into the in and outs of Change Management, I want to share with you some common myths.

Myth number 1, Change is easy. Perhaps that is meant to be a joke. Definitely, not the truth.

Myth number 2, People will do what they are told to do. People are humans and not robots. It’s just plain unrealistic. 

Myth number 3, A plan is enough. Now a plan is a MUST but there are many other things that are needed too.
 
Myth number 4, If only a few people resist, it will be fine. Wrong. Do not underestimate the strength of a determined group of people who share the same vision.
 
Myth number 5, We can silence the resisters. Again wrong. You do not want to silence the resisters, instead you need to engage with them.
 
Myth number 6, Leadership does not need to be involved in every step of the process. So while the leadership does not need to make the change initiative their full-time day job, they most certainly have to be involved.
 
Myth number 7, Change Management can happen overnight! Definitely not. Time, time and more time is crucial to its success.
 
Myth number 8, The technical side of things is more important than the people side of things. Hmmm really? No. They come hand-in-hand and are of equal importance.
 
And one final note on myths, Change Management is not one-size-fits-all as every company and every culture is different. Therefore, if you have implemented a successful change initiative at a previous employer, the same initiative may not work at your current employer.
