Title: Thinking Globally
Module: Setting The Foundation
Multi-national organizations typical start off with a headquarters that is heavily domestically focused even though it has businesses operating internationally. They may even let each geographic region function autonomously. However, as the multi-national company matures it will become important to foster a global-mindset in its leaders and it will become critical for executives and HR leaders to take a global talent perspective and to start measuring the quality of their talent across the global enterprise.
Talent assessment solutions can help them do this because more and more online talent assessments are now available in multiple languages and can be administered via mobile phones or tablets. These advances in technology and automation allow HR to roll out talent assessments in a globally scalable manner.
If you are interested in global assessment initiatives, I will caution you that the European Union and Switzerland, in particular, have strict laws pertaining to data protection and privacy that are much more stringent than we have here in the USA. And in 2015, they declared the US Department of Commerce’s Safe Harbor data protection framework was inadequate. Since this was the framework which all US-based test publishers relied upon, this was a big problem.
Fortunately, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the European Commission and the Swiss Administration have established a new framework in 2016 called the E.U.-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework which “provide companies on both sides of the Atlantic with a mechanism to comply with data protection requirements when transferring personal data from the European Union and Switzerland to the United States in support of transatlantic commerce” For more information about this, you can go to this website www.PrivacyShield.gov.
