Welcome to California Workplace Safety, part of the HR Jetpack California series. This self-paced course is designed to help HR professionals, managers, and business leaders understand and apply the unique safety regulations that govern California workplaces. Through three in-depth lessons, you’ll explore how to build a strong culture of safety—including the powerful principles of “just culture”—while learning to develop effective Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPPs) and properly document and report workplace incidents in compliance with Cal/OSHA requirements. Real-world case law and legislation examples will show how safety culture, compliance, and accountability intersect in California’s complex regulatory environment.

Each lesson delivers practical knowledge you can apply immediately. Lesson one focuses on the foundations of safety culture and compliance, including employee engagement, leadership commitment, and the key principles behind a just culture. In lesson two, you’ll take a detailed look at what goes into an effective IIPP—from policies and hazard assessments to training and inspection planning. Finally, lesson three walks you through how to properly document workplace injuries and illnesses, complete OSHA 300 series forms, and ensure your organization is always audit-ready. By the end of this course, you’ll have the tools and insight needed to create a safer, more compliant workplace in the state of California.
